Because of a law that targets the gay community
For those who don't know, recently the Governor of Indiana, USA, Mike Pence, signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, turning it into the State's law. According to him, businesses and shops have the right not to serve gay, based on religious beliefs. This movement has revolutionized big reactions throughout the u.s. and large enterprises and institutions have warned that if it does not withdraw the law will cease their activities in Indiana.
The part of many large technology companies took and Tim Cook, sending a letter to the
Washington Post and stating on Twitter that "we are very disappointed by the new law of Indiana", calling on the Governor of Arkansas to block a similar law that is to be voted. "Worldwide we strive to behave the same way customers – regardless of where they come from, what God they worship or who they love."
The CEO of salesforce.com announced that "cancels all programs require customers/employees to travel to Indiana to do without this distinction". The CEO of Yelp wrote "an open letter to the Commonwealth about the imposition of discriminatory laws", stating that "the Yelp will try to expand its presence only in States that do not make such discrimination". The list of big companies who get distances from this policy continues to grow daily. Proponents of the law argue that America, as a purely capitalist country, you must give the freedom of businesses to choose their clientele, those based on whatever features they deem best. The counter-argument says that this move would plunge the u.s. into a new age discrimination whites-Negroes, this time with gay in place of Negroes. What do you think?
