Better than GPS
The DARPA develops a completely different technology of GPS for real-time location detection without blind spots and unaffected in blocking efforts. While developed for the u.s. military, the new technology will offer greater flexibility and accuracy from GPS and in peacetime.
As stated, "the need for optimal operational activities in areas where GPS is not accessible, it is unreliable, or blocked by the enemy, created the demand for precision positioning alternatives". Also working on this-adjustable gyroscopes, accelerometers and watches which can identify your location without the need for external signal. For example if the smartwatch knows from where you start and move 350 metres north, you know who you are without having to connect to the Internet or satellite.
